The Asante Akim South Municipal Assembly Hall became the center of intense democratic action as Assembly Members gathered for a critical confirmation vote. The sole agenda of the day's special session was the voting process to decide the fate of Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, who was nominated for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) by the President of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama. The entire exercise was officially organized, supervised, and conducted by the Asante Akim South Municipal Directorate of the Electoral Commission of Ghana. To ensure complete transparency, the Commission set up a standard voting arena within the hall, complete with a secure polling booth and a transparent ballot box, mirroring the layout of a national election. The voting pool was strictly limited to the Assembly Members, comprising both elected representatives and government appointees. Under local government regulations, the nominee required a minimum of two-thirds of the total votes cast by the members present to secure the position of Municipal Chief Executive. The process began with a rigorous roll call of the voters, after which each Assembly Member walked up to the Electoral Commission officials, went through verification, and received a single ballot paper. One by one, the members entered the screen to cast their secret ballots before dropping them into the central box. The atmosphere in the hall remained quiet and expectant during the casting of ballots, shifting to high anticipation as the voting ended. Electoral Commission officers then emptied the ballot box in full view of the house, sorting and counting the papers aloud to determine if the President’s nominee had successfully cleared the two-thirds legal hurdle.
