THE NHIS OF ASANTE AKIM SOUTH BRINGS HEALTHCARE REGISTRATION TO THE DOORSTEP OF ATIEMO NKWANTA RESIDENTS

In a proactive move to bridge the gap in healthcare access, the Asante Akim South Municipal office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) conducted a specialized outreach programme for the residents of Atiemo Nkwanta on Thursday, August 8, 2024. The initiative is part of a strategic drive to bring essential insurance services directly to local communities and increase overall enrolment within the municipality. The one-day exercise provided a comprehensive suite of services, including new registrations, renewal of expired cards, and biometric updates for members. Beyond administrative tasks, NHIS officials engaged in a sensitization session, educating the public on the extensive range of health services covered under the scheme and the critical role insurance plays in reducing the financial burden of medical bills. Speaking at the event, NHIS officials emphasized that healthcare is a fundamental right. They urged residents to maintain active membership to ensure seamless access to medical facilities. “The NHIS remains a reliable mechanism for protecting households from high hospital costs,” an official noted, highlighting the government’s ongoing commitment to universal health coverage. The outreach was warmly received by the community, particularly by the elderly and vulnerable, who noted that the local presence of the NHIS team saved them significant travel time and transportation costs. The Asante Akim South NHIS office has assured the public that similar outreach programmes will be rolled out across other communities in the municipality to ensure no resident is left behind.
