ASANTE AKIM SOUTH ASSEMBLY DISBURSES LEAP GRANTS AND CONDUCTS SOCIAL SENSITIZATION
The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development within the Asante Akim South Municipal Assembly has successfully completed its monthly disbursement under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme for June 2024. The exercise, which targets the municipality's most vulnerable residents, combined financial support with critical social education to ensure a holistic approach to poverty alleviation. Beneficiaries including the elderly, persons with disabilities, and extremely poor households gathered to receive their cash transfers. These grants are designed to provide an immediate safety net, helping families meet basic needs and improve their overall standard of living. In a proactive move, the Department coupled the payment exercise with a comprehensive sensitization session. Officials educated participants on vital social issues such as child protection, domestic violence, and proper healthcare practices. Furthermore, beneficiaries were encouraged to invest portions of their grants into small-scale livelihood activities to foster long-term financial resilience. "Our goal extends beyond the direct cash transfer," noted a representative from the Department. "We aim to equip these households with the knowledge necessary to navigate social challenges and build a more stable future for their families." The beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation to the Municipal Assembly and the government, citing the programme as a vital lifeline for the underprivileged within the municipality.
