ASANTE AKIM SOUTH HEALTH DIRECTORATE CONDUCTS MASS DISTRIBUTION OF TREATED MOSQUITO NETS TO COMBAT MALARIA
In a major push to eliminate malaria, the Asante Akim South Municipal Health Directorate has successfully completed a five-day mass distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticide-Treated Nets (LLINs). The exercise, which ran from June 7th to 11th, 2024, aligns with the National Malaria Control Program’s mission to reduce morbidity and mortality rates across Ghana. Trained health staff and volunteers were deployed to every corner of the municipality, ensuring that households received nets proportionate to their size. While the campaign targeted the general population, specific priority was given to pregnant women and children under five, who remain the most vulnerable to malaria-related complications. Beyond the physical distribution, the Directorate integrated a vital educational component into the exercise. Beneficiaries were sensitized on the proper hanging and maintenance of the nets, with health officials emphasizing the importance of consistent, nightly use. The Directorate described the campaign as a resounding success, noting that thousands of households are now better protected against mosquito bites. This intervention reinforces the Assembly’s broader commitment to improving public health outcomes and easing the pressure on local health facilities by preventing illness at the household level.
